DEATH OBITUARY : Joey Chustz, former Denham Springs High football star and assistant coach, dies

Denham Springs High School (Official) is mourning the loss of a football star and assistant coach who died suddenly.

Joey Chustz, one of Denham Springs High’s most accomplished football sons, passed away suddenly on Wednesday.

DSHS principal Kelly Jones confirmed that the 40-year-old Chustz died of natural causes with no warning.

"A tremendous man," DSHS football coach Bill Conides said. "He loved his family. He loved his players. He loved his school. He loved his community. My lasting memory of him will be his joy in the direction the football program was/is heading. 'Coach, I love this, Coach I love that we can do that, Coach I love that we are doing this.' He was a man that loved and expected nothing in return. We could all learn how to be humans from a guy like that."

So shocked & sad after hearing this news!!! Joe Chustz was a friend in high school. I remember him being one of the sweetest, tallest, funniest guys I knew back then. Rest In Peace Joey. Thoughts & prayers to your wife, children, & loved ones you leave behind.

Prayers for this family and all the yellow jacket community . . I want to thank him for everything he's taught mitchell he was loved by so many and will be missed.

I'll never forget how much intensity you had when it came to football practice. You always wanted to see a play get made, a big hit and some intensity! I remember me and my twin Greg Dickson walking though the locker room on a Friday morning you stopped us and said "damn y'all some big boys any thoughts on playing college ball? Y'all go stand over there so I can take a picture and send it to somebody I know". All about seeing the next man succeed! RIP Coach Chustz
