DEATH OBITUARY : George H. Niederauer , San Francisco anti gay Archbishop dies

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A San Francisco archbishop who helped lead a contentious and successful 2008 California ballot measure to ban gay marriage has died.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/2pFSnkH ) that George H. Niederauer died Tuesday of lung cancer at a San Rafael, California care facility. He was 80.
San Francisco's current archbishop confirmed his predecessor's death in an online announcement .

The Most Rev. George H. Niederauer, who led Utah Catholics from 1995 until 2005, died Tuesday at his nursing home in San Rafael, California, according to the Diocese of Salt Lake City.

Please join us in prayer. Retired Archbishop George H. Niederauer died today at Nazareth House in San Rafael. Visitation will be at St. Anne of the Sunset May 11 and funeral will be May 12 at St. Mary's Cathedral. More about the archbishop and opportunities to pay respects here.
