Obituary : Voodoo Taco founder Eric Newton dies

Eric Newton, the founder of Voodoo Taco restaurants, lived with gusto and died last week at middle age.

Newton suffered a heart attack in his northwest Omaha home April 13. His 12-year-old daughter, Emma, called 911 and did chest compressions, but Newton was declared dead in the hospital soon after.

Eric Newton, 45, helped create the Voodoo Taco chain in Omaha but had removed himself from operations and sold most of his ownership interest. He was working on a new restaurant concept when he died.

Yesterday, my brother-in-law, Erik Newton  died suddenly. For those of you who knew Eric, you know what a generous and genuine person he was. In that spirit, I am reaching out to you to help his family with his funeral expenses. If you can donate, please donate. If you can share the GoFundMe page, please do that.

Financial assistance and prayers for his wife (my sister) and daughters are appreciated.

Dan Tweedy Eric was an amazing friend. Every conversation we had just picked up at where we last left off. I wish we had been closer and I wish we could have another great conversation. #GBR, brother.
