Obituary : Ron Herens, Marietta firefighter dies in suspected DUI crash in California

HEARTBREAKING: Marietta firefighter Ron Herens was on vacation in Los Angeles with several of his colleagues when a suspected DUI driver caused a wreck that claimed his life.

Ron Herens, Dillon Guest and Doug Blanchard were on vacation when the car they were driving in was struck by a suspected DUI driver in the Venice area of Los Angeles, according to the Marietta Fire Department.

The following is statement from Marietta Fire Department Chief Jackie Gibbs regarding the tragic incident affecting Marietta firefighters while on vacation.

Chief Jackie Gibbs will address the media at 11:00 today (Tuesday, April 11, 2017) in front of Fire Station 51 located next to Marietta City Hall at 112 Haynes Street, Marietta, GA 30060.
“It is with great sadness that I report the death of Marietta firefighter Ron CHerens. Ron tragically died in a car crash in Los Angeles, California while on vacation with four other firefighters from Marietta Fire Department. Ronwas a passenger in a car with two fellow firefighters when their car was struck by a DUI driver. The other two firefighters, Dillon Guest and Doug Blanchard were transported by ambulance to UCLA Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Funeral arrangements are pending.”
