People are paying tributes on social media.

Sunshine Knight Prayers for this young man, his family, and their terrible loss. This is something he will live with for the rest of his life. This was an accident. I don't understand the charge of vehicular homicide. I am sure he didn't fall asleep on purpose. So sad.

Leanne Dillingham Poor kid and he will have to live with this  I would assume the speed could have something to do with him falling asleep to.. like he wasn't fully alert to lift his foot off the gas. Praying for him and their loved ones

Renae Van Pelt Don't you living with the fact he killed his own mother is punishment enough?
She was an adult her not wearing her seat belt is not his fault, but the speed was. I don't think he should be charged with vehicular homicide, but should be charged with reckless driving, if he was intentionally speeding.

Tyrone Kitchen Everyone talking about speeding did you consider the possibility that when he fell asleep his foot hit the accelerator. Most important thing to learn is it's better to be late than be dead pull over and take a nap

Chandra Richardson Eli Richardson... don't speed, don't drive tired and always wear your seatbelt. This young man learned that lesson the hard way.... now he's gotta live the rest of his life knowing he killed his mom. Tragic.

Mindy Click So sad!! Is there proof he didn't fall asleep and accidentally hit the accelerator? This seems like adding salt to an open wound!! I mean this poor kid has to live with the fact his mom is now gone and she wasn't wearing a seat belt 😢 I could understand maybe a ticket but I think he will already suffer enough for the rest of his life!! Prayers to him and his family ❤️

Beth Rau I'm pretty sure he has already had to suffer the consequences of his actions. He must feel awful for falling asleep, does he really need to be charged? Accidents happen and it was his own mother who I'm sure would never want him charged after what he's already going through.

Patti Rokstad Sad, sounds like it was definitely a family member, an accident now they want to charge him with vehicular homicide! Like that's going to do this family and young man any good! Praying.

Amanda Love Magee Elaine you can always be charged if your the driver of a car who kills someone and your at fault vehicles are considered deadly weapons. So sad and he was speeding so he was negligent. Such a sad situation tho

Ray Huffs He was allegedly going 100 mph or more. Mom no seat belt. He needs some punishment.
If and only if he was DUI then toss away the keys. What a sad turn of events.

Rebekah Long This is how our justice system works now... There is no such thing as an accident, there is only negligence and someone must be punished, the victim is always innocent and the only winners are the lawyers!
