Thomas Road Baptist Church : Macel Falwell, widow of the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, dies

Macel Falwell, the widow of the Rev. Jerry Falwell Sr., has died.
She was 82.
Macel Falwell “passed away peacefully last night at her residence after a lengthy illness,” the Falwell family said in a statement Friday.
“My sweet mom slipped into Heaven just a little while ago,” Jonathan Falwell, pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church and one of the Falwells’ three children, wrote on Twitter. “I can’t believe I’ve been so blessed to have her in my life.”
Macel Falwell was born Macel Pate on Oct. 4, 1933. She was a lifelong resident of Lynchburg.
Jerry and Macel Falwell wed in April 1958 and were married 49 years.
“She was a strong influence on him,” Jerry Falwell, Jr. said Friday. “She strengthened his faith.”

He explained his mother had a cautious personality in contrast to his father’s famous entrepreneurial, risk-taking tendencies.
