CASSOPOLIS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Just days after being forced to resign because of his sexuality, a Cass County pastor is now a married man.
Pastors from all over the midwest were at the courthouse Friday, for the marriage of Reverend Benjamin Hutchison and his husband Monty.
The Methodist church says it welcomes everyone, but practicing homosexuals cannot be appointed to lead a church.
Reverend Hutchison says he knew that before he was asked to resign from United Methodist in Cassopolis this week, but some hope the church will change its rules.
“Everyone knows Reverend Hutchison is a wonderful pastor, and God is clearly working with him. And it’s important that we all bear witness,” said United Methodist Pastor John Fisher.
“I believe there is a swell of support that already exists within the denomination,” said Pastor Ginny Mikita, who officiated the ceremony.
