Porous Borders : Mexico Favoring All-Out Ties with Iran

Since 2005, Iran and Hezbollah have developed a presence in Latin America, opening 17 cultural centers, and forming relations with the Mexican drug cartels–all happening at the cusp of our porous borders.
One of the creations of Hezbollah in Mexico is well-connected global drug dealers, like Ayman Joumaa who laundered more than $850 million in drug money coming out of Mexico and helped fund Hezbollah. So, it’s no coincidence with Hezbollah’s financial support network–that U.S. officials have long known about–in Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina and Central America that Iran is strengthening ties with these countries.
