HUDSON — A former minister was indicted on charges he stole money from the Bible Baptist Church
in Ghent while pastor there.
, 55, of Granville, appeared Thursday before Columbia County JudgeRichard Koweek
and was charged with a count of third-degree grand larceny.
District Attorney Paul Czajka
said an investigation by his office and the State Police
revealed Osborne allegedly took more than $3,000 from church coffers between June 2010 and June 2014.
Czajka said the former pastor allegedly took the money to pay personal expenses and also borrowed money from the church and allegedly never paid it back.
Osborne was arrested Thursday on a warrant just hours before the sealed indictment was opened. He pleaded not guilty and was sent to the county jail until Friday morning when he will return to court with a decision on who will represent him. The issue of bail will then be discussed.
Another person is named in the case, but they have yet to be arraigned on the charges so that person’s name was redacted from the copy of the indictment.
Osborne was temporarily represented Thursday by Columbia County Public DefenderRobert Linville
