Pastor Jim Staley Passion for Truth Ministries Daily Devotional

David was a man after God's own heart (Acts 13:22), and he loved His commandments (Psalm 119 and many others). It is also interesting to note that David was convinced that God's goodness—in Hebrew, 'tuv' (טוּב), meaning 'goodness, fairness, joy, beauty'—would actually show up here on Earth, in the midst of His people (Psalm 27:13). David didn't believe that God's goodness, joy, and fairness only existed out in the heavens, leaving humans to mope around in sinful misery their whole lives.

We believers, who have the promise of eternal life through our Messiah Yeshua (Jesus), have no reason to think that we—or anyone else—must wait for eternity to experience this goodness. We, too, must remain confident that Yahweh will show his goodness in the land of the living. If we continue to study His commands, believe His commands, love His commands, love one another, and *actually believe* that His goodness will be seen in this world—then we might start being people after God's own heart, too.
