Obituary : Pastor Adam Thourogood Sr of The New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ dies in farm accident

Tragedy struck once more this week for members of a long-standing Seatack church.
Elder Adam Thourogood Sr., 44, died Tuesday afternoon when a tractor he was driving in Suffolk overturned, officials there said in a news release. He was senior pastor of New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ off South Birdneck Road.
It was the second sudden death of a New Jerusalem Church leader since 2012, when Bishop Barnett Thoroughgood collapsed after a fiery Sunday sermon. He was the church's founder and longtime leader.
It was also the second tragic death for the men's families. They were uncle and nephew, though their last names were spelled differently.
The tractor landed on top of Thourogood and he died at the scene, according to church and Suffolk officials. The accident occurred in the 3900 block of Butler Drive in the city's rural Whaleyville borough, the release said.
Officials are investigating the cause.
The newest casualty is "beyond shocking," said the church's executive pastor, Samuel Woodhouse. "I'm lost for words."
Woodhouse said he last spoke with Thourogood on Tuesday afternoon, shortly before his death. He said Thourogood enjoyed spending time on the farm.
