Obituary : Lutheran Minister John Steinbruck 84

The Rev. Dr. John Steinbruck, a Lutheran minister who spent 25 years as one of Washington’s most forceful and most effective advocates for the dispossessed, and who was the driving force behind the development of N Street Village, a shelter that has served thousands of homeless women, died March 1 at an assisted living facility in Lewes, Del. He was 84.
He had complications from Parkinson’s disease, said a son, John A. Steinbruck.
When Rev. Steinbruck came to Washington in 1970 as pastor of Luther Place Memorial Church, the neighborhood near his church at Thomas Circle NW was beset by prostitutes, drug dealers and urban blight.
