Obituary : Pastor Henry Lineberger of Hendersonville dies in church van mishap

HENDERSONVILLE – An associate pastor at a Hendersonville church died Monday morning after a church van rolled over him as he was checking engine fluids.

Henry Lineberger, 69, of Etowah, died at the scene of the accident at New Beginnings World Outreach Center on Summit Circle, Hendersonville police Lt. Mike Vesely said.

The accident was reported shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Investigators believe Lineberger put the vehicle in neutral gear to check fluid levels but did not apply the emergency brake, Vesely said. The van was parked on a hill in front of the church.

When the van began rolling, Lineberger attempted to stop it by getting in front of it, Vesely said.

Lineberger was preparing the van to pick up food to deliver to the needy and elderly, Vesely said.

Church leaders could not be reached.

According to the church’s website, Lineberger had been associate pastor at New Beginnings for the past seven years. He held a bachelor’s degree in commercial art and philosophy and a master’s degree in divinity. He worked in the fields of ministry and counseling for more than 30 years, according to the website.
