Catholic Bishop 'Kieran Conry confessed to having sex with woman

HOVE, England - An English Catholic bishop has resigned after admitting that he has been "unfaithful to his promises as a Catholic priest."

Bishop Kieran Conry of Arundel and Brighton, chairman of the Department of Evangelization and Catechesis of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, said in a statement that he would step down "with immediate effect." "I would like to reassure you that my actions were not illegal and did not involve minors,"

Bishop Conry said in a statement read out in parishes of his diocese at Masses Sept. 27 and 28.

Wife of pastor Terry Hornbuckle talks about her husband rape conviction

ARLINGTON — He was the charismatic preacher; she was the supportive wife.
Together, Terry and Renee Hornbuckle built a successful mega church in Arlington with more than 2,000 members.

They owned a beautiful home and drove luxury cars.
But, in January 2005, it all began to fall apart. "When something like this hits you, you're like there's no way possible," Hornbuckle said of the moment her husband made a horrific confession.

"There's no way this is happening." The bishop told his wife that he was in trouble.

"It was there in that hotel room that everything was exposed, but he was still in denial," she said. "He accepted no responsibility."

Young Jeezy's song Holy Ghost removed online as Bishop TD Jakes moves to sue the rapper

Televangelist Bishop T.D. Jakes is not pleased that part of his sermon was used in a rap remix without his approval.

Jeezy’s song “Holy Ghost” featuring Kendrick Lamar begins with passionate words from Jakes – words that came from a February 2013 sermon called “Don’t Let the Chatter Stop You.”

According to a post on T.D. Jakes Ministries’ Facebook page, the sermon was sampled in Jeezy’s rap song “without the knowledge or consent” of Jakes, who is the bishop at a mega-church in Dallas called The Potter’s House.

Jakes wrote on Facebook, “we are taking the necessary legal actions to stop the unauthorized use of T.D. Jakes’ intellectual property.”

The Dallas Morning News could not find record of a lawsuit filed in federal court.
Jakes’ spokesperson wouldn’t comment, saying they stay mum on legal matters.

Pastor Jesse Duplantis - Word for Today

Faith directs your attention to the resistance of evil and the cultivation of good. If you will allow it, your faith can handle conflict very well.

Faith is the soul’s eye and by it we can see what the natural eye cannot see.
Faith is also the soul’s ear—it can hear what the natural ear can’t.

It's also the soul’s hand in that it can handle what the natural hand cannot. Here it is again: Faith can handle conflict very well.
Think about it for a minute.
Faith supplies motives for endurance. It supplies hope for success.

The reason faith can supply these things is because it gives you confidence in your leader, Jesus Christ, and in yourself. Glory!

Bishop T.D Jakes to Sue Rappers Young Jeezy and Kendrick Lamar

Megachurch pastor TD Jakes says rappers Young Jeezy and Kendrick Lamar violated God's law—and US law, too.
The rappers' remix of "Holy Ghost" opens with a sample of a Jakes speech from last year, the New York Daily News reports, and Jakes says in a Facebook post he neither consented to nor knew about the remix. "We are taking the necessary legal actions to stop the unauthorized use of TD Jakes' intellectual property," the post reads.
But one legal expert tells the Daily News the rappers probably have "a strong fair use case," meaning they're likely allowed to use the material without permission because they're making "a point that amounts to commentary." Specifically, he says, they're using the Jakes sermon "to make a comment on the role of religion in [people's] consciousness."

Two Nigerian Pastors among 46 Christians Killed by Muslim Terrorists

KARSHIN DAJI, Nigeria (Morning Star News) – Following attacks on three towns in Nigeria’s Kaduna state last week that killed 46 Christians, church leaders said the Muslim Fulani assailants seem driven to rid the area of Christianity and use the land to graze their cattle.

Two pastors were among 31 Christians killed just after midnight on Sept. 17 in Karshin Daji, where 15 others were injured and 15 houses burned down, Christian leaders said. Pastor Ezra Ibrahim of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) was killed, and the Rev. Julius Jako of the ECWA was slain alongside his wife and daughter, said 60-year-old Danjuma Awe, an elder of the ECWA congregation in Karshin Daji.

Jako, his wife Rhoda and their 12-year-old daughter were in their home on their church premises in Karshin Daji when Awe heard about an attack going on at Fadan Karshi, just five kilometers (three miles) away, he said. His family told Jako’s son to warn his father, and he left.

Chicago Church gives $500 each to its members

LaSalle Street Church—a small church in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood—is putting its members ability to pay it forward to the ultimate test.

Last Sunday, the church straight up split $160,000 between each of its 300 members in $500 chunks with one request: use it for good.

According to Senior Pastor Laura Truax, her first thought upon giving out the money was "Holy crap, we might just be squandering 160,000 bucks, which is a big deal because we're not even meeting our budget this year," which is at least honest. "It felt a little ludicrous, and it felt super bold, and it felt good," she went on to say.

Obituary : Bishop Bill Hamon's wife, Evelyn, has passed away.

A post on Hamon's Facebook page reads:

Mom Hamon went to be with Jesus this morning at 8:05. It was very peaceful. She took one last breath and went into His arms. Her vision of seeing Jesus reaching out his arms is now fulfilled in a beautiful loving embrace from her Lord. She is in Heaven now rejoicing, seeing Her parents and family that have gone before her.

Our hearts are heavy and hurting but comforted by the Holy Spirit and the love and support of so many. She meant so much to so many and will be dearly missed. We are currently thinking that we will have a service for her this Saturday and we will let you know the details as they are finalized.

All expressions of love and support are so appreciated.

ISIL want to assassinate the Pope, says Iraq’s ambassador to Vatican

Pope Francis is at risk of an assassination attempt by the Islamic extremists of Isil, the Vatican has been warned, ahead of his first visit to a Muslim-majority country this weekend.

As the 77-year-old pontiff prepares to travel to Albania on Sunday for a one-day visit, Iraq’s ambassador to the Holy See said there were credible threats against the pontiff’s life.

The leader of the Roman Catholic Church could also be vulnerable when he travels to Turkey in November, the ambassador said.

Jihadists from Isil have in recent weeks boasted of wanting to extend their caliphate to Rome, the heart of Western Christendom, and have talked of planting the jihadist black flag on top of St Peter’s Basilica.

Obituary : Ben Speer's sister Mary Tom Reid is dead

It is with a sad heart that I inform you that Ben's sister, Mary Tom Reid has just passed away of natural causes. Thank you for all your love and support.

Born in Double Springs, Alabama, on June 13, 1925, Mary Tom Speer-Reid is the youngest daughter of GT “Dad” Speer and Lena Darling Brock “Mom” Speer. Mary Tom spent many years performing with the Speer Family prior marrying the Reverend Robert “Bob” Reid in 1954. She left the group to support her husband’s ministry and raise her family of three children: Teresa Ann Reid Fontaine (1955), Cynthia Lee Reid (1958), and Timothy Scott Reid (1960).
They moved to Ohio in 1961 where they lived and pastored until Bob’s death in December of 1968. After the untimely death of her husband, Mary Tom and children moved back to Nashville in 1969.
She returned to the Speer Family on a limited basis for special concert appearances in the early 1980’s and continued to appear with the Speers until the retirement of the group. Mary Tom has also been a staff member of the Ben Speer’s Stamps-Baxter School of Music, secretary for Ben Speer Music, and quite active in the Gaither Homecoming Series. Led by family patriarch George Thomas Speer (1891-1966), the Singing Speer Family was a well-known gospel group with its origins in Alabama. George Thomas "Dad" Speer, Lena Brock "Mom" Speer, and their children, Brock, Rosa Nell, Mary Tom, and Ben, were all part of the family group at some point. With the onset of the Great Depression in 1929, the G. T. Speer Family moved to Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.

Speer made a living as an insurance salesman and a singing-school teacher. In 1934, Speer took a job with the James D. Vaughan Music Publishing Company of Lawrenceburg and blossomed as a music teacher and songwriter.
He co-wrote many of his songs at that time with Adger Pace, who wrote the lyrics for Speer's compositions as well as for many other gospel writers who published songs for the Vaughan Company. G. T. Speer wrote or co-wrote more than 600 songs. The group was popular for much of the latter half of the twentieth century, appearing on radio and television shows in Alabama and Tennessee and making more than 60 recordings. The Speer Family was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Gospel Music Association's Hall of Fame in 1998.

Mary Tom Speer-Reid was inducted into the Southern Gospel Hall of Fame in 2006. Mrs. Speer-Reid is survived by sister, Rosa Nell Speer Powell; brother, Ben Lacy Speer; daughters Teri Reid Fontaine and her husband Shannon and Cynthia Lee Reid, son Timothy Scott Reid and wife Pamela; grandchildren Megan Louise Reid Layne, Meredith Lindsey Reid, Marissa Lee Reid, Allyson Rose Fontaine, John Robert Fontaine and Anna Lee Reid; great-grandsons Gavin Scott Layne and Liam Matthew Reid.

Nigerian Christian would rather die than convert Islam

NIGERIA – A Christian man in Nigeria recently stood firm for his faith despite Muslim attempts to force him to convert to Islam while threatening him with death.

As previously reported, the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram has been attacking the Gwoza area for several years, with violence intensifying throughout 2014.

In June, South Africa Today reported that the death toll in Borno State was estimated at being between 400 to 500 residents, but that an exact tally could not be calculated.

“The killings are massive, but nobody can give a toll for now because nobody has been able to go to that place because the insurgents are still there,” lawmaker Peter Biye stated.
“They have taken over the whole area.”

Islamic Militants releases its news magazine

An Islamic State (ISIS) magazine called Dabiq has warned that the United States and other Western “crusaders” are facing Armageddon at the hands of the terror group’s  fighters.

The publication is packed with disturbing pictures of bloody corpses, bombed-out buildings and knife-wielding jihadists, while one issue even has a section devoted to the beheading of American journalist James Foley, The Washington Post reports.

Filled with snazzy graphics and printed in English and other languages, the  magazine is being used as a recruitment tool by the terror insurgents to enlist and radicalize foreigners around the world.

The Islamic State, which has an estimated 12,000 foreign fighters from 74 countries, also employs Dabiq to promote its violent campaign to defeat the “Romans” or “crusaders” from the West, who are symbolized by photos of President Barack Obama and Arizona GOP Sen. John McCain.

Colorado boy plead guilty of conspiracy to assist Islamic Terrorists

A Colorado teenager plead guilty on Wednesday to a charge of conspiracy to assist the Islamic terror group ISIS. Shannon Conley, 19, was first turned into police last fall when she was seen acting suspiciously while visiting Faith Bible Church in Arvada, and has been investigated on several occasions.

Reports state that she met a 32-year-old ISIS member Yousr Mouelhi online and began communicating with him on Skype. The two sought to marry, but Conley’s father refused to give his blessing to the relationship.

He called the police when he discovered that his daughter had obtained a plane ticket to Turkey. She was taken into custody at the Denver International Airport this past April as she was set to fly to Germany and then on to an ISIS camp near Turkey, where she would wait to hear from Mouelhi.
Conley, who is a certified nurse’s aide, told investigators that she was was going to serve as a nurse at a jihadist camp, and wished to help wage jihad against the United States.

I'm certain this could have been resolved in a more discrete and amicable way.

Atheist must swear with "so help me God," -- or leave US Air Force

Washington (AFP) - The US Air Force has told a sergeant he will have to leave the military unless he agrees to take an oath with the phrase "so help me God," officials said Tuesday.
In the latest religious controversy to roil the air force, the atheist airman last month was denied his request to re-enlist because of his refusal to swear to God -- and he is now poised to take the military to court, his lawyer said.
"We have not received word from the Air Force regarding our letter. It has not indicated a willingness to settle out of court," said Monica Miller, an attorney for the American Humanist Association, which has taken up the service member's case.
With the deadline for re-enlisting expiring in November, the technical sergeant at Creech Air Force base in Nevada -- whose name has not been released -- will be forced to sue the government in a federal court, Miller told AFP.
In the past, an airman could opt for an alternative phrase and omit the words "so help me God," but the US Air Force changed its policy in October 2013.
